Alejandro Freeland

My name is Alejandro Freeland. I am the Executive Director of the Latino Canadian Cultural Association. We are now at the Artscape Wychwood Barns. We moved to the Wychwood Barns at the end of 2008. We are in the Suite 254.

I’m one of the co-founders. We started in June 2003 out of the need to support Latin American Art and Artists. Several old students of the Ontario College of Art and Design we decided to start an association. They were Oscar de las Flores, Nahum Flores, Jesus Mora and some other people that gathered with us like Rita Camacho, Erik Jerezano, Julian Calleros, Rodrigo Hernandez and later Sojin Chun.

We have presented a Visual Exhibition since 2004 and a Festival of Music, dance, Video and Performance since 2005. This year we are presenting the Latin-Afro-First Nations Festival.

We plan to continue to thrive with the Visual Exhibitions and the Festivals, taking into account that a big part of our members are Visual Artists, so that why we have in our festivals another Visual Exhibition too.

This website is made through a Grant from the Gateway Fund from the Heritage Canada and that’s something is going to give us a full diffusion in Canada and abroad.

Also we have to mention that we are working with the support of the Ontario Arts Council.
