It’s very organic as you can see. It’s very subconscious. I start working with the media, that’s acrylic and it’s very watery, so let the media expand and start taking its form and then start to tell me what to do. That’s an inspiration from nature. That’s the way nature works. If you see the mountains, rivers, everything comes by accident.

There is an influence from my culture. I was born in the Aztec territory, so I had the need to understand my past. As an artist I tried to put the Art into my knowledge, because every time, everywhere in school, they are Eurocentric, like the masters, Michel Angelo. There are people from other countries like Indonesia or the Mayans, they are not masters because they were not famous. That was my point. That pushed me to look more into the Aztec iconography. The Aztecs had a lot of influence from the Mayans too. That pushed me into those cultures. When you see my work, I tried to feel that way.

You see the iconography. The language is different. You see like a face. And then it’s like a fish going out.

I like to play with these things, snakes or reptiles. What you are going to see a lot in my work is related to nature and unity and ourselves. We are part of the same thing. I try to copy that language that the Aztecs or our ancestors used.

In my works you are going to see lots of animals or parts of bodies. You can see a snake and then you can see an insect and also another kind of creatures. It’s very fantastic. In my culture there is a lot of mythology. I’m playing with all those things, trying to get inspired by the culture. Every time you visit the archeological sites, you feel that magical way to look into the art. I like little details in my work. If get close you are going to see like little crocodiles happening here. It’s always something jumping and you have a piece like this and after a year you are going to see something else, cause that happens even to me.
